simonsen faithful hound
The Faithful Hound (1856)
by
Neils Simonsen

Simonsen (1807-1885) was a Danish painter and sculptor.

Although this dog is identified as a "hound" (in the translated title), it does bear some resemblance, given its then-common curly coat and its apparent large size, to other mid-19th Century depictions of dogs identified as Newfoundlands.
