[ Haynes / 12:00 noon, September 23, 1806 ]

Michael Haynes is an American painter specializing in historical art. This painting, from 2006, depicts the return of the Lewis and Clark expedition to St. Louis.

Although the depiction of a rather modern-looking Newf jumping off the boat in anticipation is quite congenial to present-day sensibilities, especially the sensibilities of those of us privileged to share our lives with Newfoundlands, it is not known for certain that Seaman was still with the Corp of Discovery when they came ashore at St. Louis.
