Ewbank (1779-1847) was an English painter who spent some of his adult life in Scotland; he was known primarily for his maritime and landscape paintings. Despite some commercial success during his life, Ewbank died in poverty, brought on in part by alcoholism.


Is the dog in the center of this picture a Landseer Newfoundland? Hard to say with any certainty, but it could be....
